Released as part of the second edition of the Stanley Kubrick Collection. This was the first time 2001 was available overseas on DVD.
Remaster was commenced in 1999 at Pacific Title, and was scanned for HD from a 35mm anamorphic reduction of the original 65mm negatives. This would be finished the following year, and would be reused for the 2007 editions of the film.
First restoration supervised by Kubrick associate Leon Vitali.
Menus are recycled from 1998 DVD but do not animate unlike that disc.
Features an improved Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.
